Little Barn Owls Nursery, The Orchard, is a 64-place nursery offering a nurturing and inspiring environment where children are supported to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity. We work closely with families and pride ourselves on building strong, supportive relationships from the very start, creating a warm and welcoming community for both children and parents.

Our approach is enquiry-based and inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, meaning children lead their learning through their own interests, ideas and natural curiosity. We see every child as capable and full of potential, and our educators guide and support them through meaningful, play-based experiences that encourage creativity, exploration and a lifelong love of learning.

The nursery provides a rich and engaging environment with free-flow access between indoors and outdoors, allowing children to explore and learn in a way that suits them. Creative spaces, including our art studio, sensory areas and open-ended resources, support children’s development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage, helping to build strong foundations for the future.

Outdoor learning is at the heart of life at The Orchard. Children spend significant time outside each day, whether caring for animals in our Farm School, exploring nature and building confidence through Forest School, or simply enjoying free play in the fresh air. These experiences encourage independence, resilience and a deep connection with the natural world.

Each day is thoughtfully structured yet flexible, with a balance of child-led play, small group activities, creative experiences, cooking and storytelling. Activities are shaped around children’s interests, ensuring learning remains engaging, meaningful and enjoyable. Fresh, home-cooked meals are prepared onsite daily using seasonal ingredients, with children often involved in growing and preparing food, helping to develop healthy habits from an early age.

We work in close partnership with parents, keeping you connected to your child’s day through regular updates, shared observations and open communication. At The Orchard, we create a safe, supportive environment where every child feels valued and inspired, giving them the very best start to their learning journey.
