Nursery Facilities

We are starting with Nursery Facilities because according to our Nuuri parent survey these are the most important questions for parents in their initial search;

  • Location: Is the Nursery close to your home, your work or family members?
  • Outdoor Space: How much outdoor space is there for our child to play?
  • Opening Times: When can I drop my child off and pick them up?
  • Terms: Does the Nursery stay open during school holidays?
  • Number of Rooms: What are the age ranges of each room?
  • Play: Is there a good range of toys, books and learning materials?
  • Meal Offering: What meals does the Nursery provide and what's on the menu?
  • Drop Off/Pick Up: What are the parking arrangements? Is there a buggy store?

Nursery Staff

Nursery staff are hugely influential when parents are deciding on which Nursery to choose, after all, they will be looking after your tiny new loved ones, so you want to like them! A couple of points to consider;

  • Staff Profiles: Who is the manager, room leaders and room staff?
  • Staff Ratios: Are they following the staff:children ratio requirements?
  • Parent Comms: Do they have an app for updating you on your child's day?
  • First Aid: Are all members of staff first aid trained?
  • Recruitment: Does the Nursery have a specific recruitment policy?

Nursery Policies

Every Nursery has to adhere to their governing body's regulations, Care Inspectorate in Scotland and Wales and Ofsted in England. However, each Nursery setting or Nursery group will have their own set of policies for how they run their setting. The following questions are some of the policies we would ask when enquiring through nuuri.co.uk;

  • Illness Policy (Prior): What is your illness policy if my child is unwell prior to attending?
  • Illness Policy (During): What is your illness policy if my child takes ill while at Nursery?
  • Allergies: What is your policy for managing food allergies?
  • Settling In: Do you have a "settling" policy prior to my child starting?
  • Napping: Do you have a napping policy or structure?
  • Outings: Do you take children for trips outwith the Nursery grounds?
  • Daily Requirements: What do I need to provide each day? i,e nappies, wipes, spare clothes?
  • First Aid Policy: What is your first aid policy if my child is injured at Nursery?
