Welcome to St George’s Little Dragons Nursery — where imagination takes flight and learning begins with wonder.
Nestled within the heart of St George’s School, our nursery is a joyful haven where laughter echoes through leafy hideaways and curiosity leads every adventure. Guided by our experienced early years team — including a qualified nursery teacher — we offer a nurturing, play-rich environment that blends creative exploration with a strong academic foundation in early literacy and numeracy.
Our bespoke curriculum, rooted in national early years guidance, encourages children to grow emotionally, socially and academically, with parents as active partners in every step of the journey. Our nursery extends well beyond our playrooms thanks to our extensive school location; from the Fantastical Forest to the Secret Garden, our Little Dragons spend more time outdoors than most — discovering, imagining, and learning through nature.
At the heart of it all is our magical nursery dragon, who brings stories to life and helps instil the values of kindness, courage and curiosity that our children carry with them through into our Junior School.
St George's Little Dragons Nursery is more than a beginning — it is the first step in a lifelong journey of learning and belonging. As part of the wider St George’s School community, our nursery children benefit from a smooth and confident transition into the Junior School, surrounded by familiar faces and shared values. From joining whole-school celebrations to exploring shared spaces, our youngest learners grow up feeling connected, supported, and inspired. By the time they take their next educational steps, they are not just ready for school — they are already part of our vibrant and stimulating community.

Within our ante-preschool playroom the children are welcomed by our Early Years practitioners from 8:30am in the morning until registration time at 9:00am. This room has an experienced Lead Early Years Practitioner, working alongside a team of Early Years Practitioners, who oversees all learning and development activities for the children and is a consistent point of contact for families across each week. We follow a play-based approach to learning within our nursery and all activities are inspired by the curiosities and interests of the children. We ensure there is much time for rich, imaginative play experiences. Our children enjoy exploring areas, both indoors and out, which provide opportunities for sensory, active play. Key areas include our home corner, creative areas, construction area, literacy and numeracy areas and climbing frame. We have a wide range of resources and materials for the children to engage with in their play. Our children have lots of space to explore and move around. We place high value on emotional, social and communication development within our nursery. Our adults are well placed, with generous ratios, to ensure that every child can achieve their full potential during their formative early educational years. We believe that a secure beginning provides a strong platform for children to learn with open hearts and open minds. We benefit from being part of an all-through community by the provision of specialist lessons for our nursery children. Some lessons are provided by external providers. For our ante preschool class these specialist lessons are: ballet, music and library. These are all included within the overall fee. We provide a morning and an afternoon snack for all children in our nursery, following the national guidance around food and nutrition in the early years. Children who stay with us for a whole day session have a hot meal, provided by our on-site catering team, who liaise closely with the nursery team to ensure that all needs are met. We have a breakfast club within nursery every morning during term time (7:45 - 8:30am) which is staffed by our nursery team ensuring that every child has a familiar, friendly and warm welcome when they arrive for their early start. Our after school provision extends to nursery, and we are available until 6:00pm every evening during the term. We offer flexibility for bookings to allow families to find the perfect balance for their weekly schedule. Wrap around provision is an additional charge to the nursery sessions. Our nursery operates during St George's School term times and we have a Holiday Club service, for an extra charge and led by our Early Years team, that allows us to remain open for 50 weeks of the year. We ask that families provide resources for personal care and hygiene for their child, such as nappies and wipes. As we spend lots of time outdoors, making good use of our beautiful and extensive school grounds, we ask that children have waterproof clothes and wellingtons so that they are ready every day for an adventure!
